By choosing a waterbed you have chosen to change the way you sleep (for the better!)

Why not have a look at the sleep encyclopedia found here, based on psychiatrist Jes Gerlach's book 'Sleep' (2003).

We sell top of the range Akva beds. You can of course buy cheaper, but with waterbeds go for the best you can afford. We offer INTEREST FREE CREDIT so that you can have the right size bed and headboard and drawers if you need them.

Our beds range from around £895 to about £3000 for the biggest, top of the range with all the options.

The same price range as ‘good quality’ conventional sprung or Tempur type beds.

A Superking Allround (6’) with an F5 mattress is around £1595, the dual version £1895.

Rather than just choosing a bed. You choose the size, height, mattress, model and finish so that your bed fits your needs and your bedroom.

We have tried to make it as simple as possible.

Most waterbeds sold today are divans, they are easier to get in and out of, often take standard size bedding and allow you to sit on the edge of the bed.  Akva beds are divans. With a wonderful range of styles, sizes and options to suit your needs. We can also fit a bed within your existing bed frame. (the Inside).

The hard sided beds are the older style of waterbed. You climb in and out rather than sit on the edge. We no longer have hard side beds on display, but do stock replacement mattresses, liners and bedding for these beds.

STEP1 Size and height?

Size.   Think big! If you sleep on a double see if you can find the extra few inches for a 5’ King(150cm).

Or a 5’3”, Continental King (160cm) with the option of dual mattresses. It only costs a few more pounds but will give you a better nights sleep, especially if you are of average to larger build.

If space is not a problem think super king. We only charge around another £100 for most of our super kings.

A 6’ (180cm) or 6’6” (200cm) wide waterbed is the ultimate. Giving the option of dual mattresses and plenty of personal space.

The standard length of a waterbed is 6’6” (200cm) with the option of 6’3” (190cm) on doubles.

If you are taller than most we can go to 7' (210cm)  and longer and provide the bedding to go with it.!!!

Height.

Our beds come in a choice of standard height of 20”(50cm) and deep 24” (61cm).

With the exception of the Junior at 18” (46cm)

Some people find it a little easier to get on and off a higher bed. We can advise the best height for you.

STEP 2  Choosing the mattress - mattress sizes

Unless you are familiar with waterbeds, choosing the right mattress can seem a little daunting.

There are several on offer. They all look the same on the outside, the difference is the stabilising fibre inside. The more layers the less movement. The sleeping firmness can be adjusted by adding or taking out water. Most people find turning and getting off the bed easier on a stabilised mattress. It is why we have the shop so that you can try the different types and choose the right one for you. On display we have 3,4,5 and 6 layer mattresses as well as lumber support and dual.

Mattress Chart

We recommend three.

The Akva Fibre 3. This allows two to three seconds of gentle relaxing motion before settling and gives a traditional waterbed feel to the bed.

The Akva Fibre 5. This is our best selling mattress. 0-1 second of motion. An easier mattress to get on and off. You’ll love it.

The Akva Fibre 6. The extra layer takes away all motion. Ideal if you are less mobile or are used to a firmer bed.

F0

No fibre, stable after 15 seconds

F2

2 layers of fibre. Stable after 6 seconds

F3

3 layers of fibre. Stable after 3 seconds

F4

F5

F6

6 layers of fibre. Fully stabilised

F7

7 layers of fibre. Super stabilised

F8

8 layers of fibre. Super stabilised.

Lumbar support

Akva offer the option of lumbar support with their mattresses. This is two extra layers across the centre of the mattress for extra firmness. We have these on display we can explain the benefits to you.

Dual mattresses

With the bigger beds 5’3” (160cm)  and above you have the option of dual mattresses. Two mattress with a thermal divider (each with it’s own heater). With a dual you can be sure the sleeping temperature and firmness is perfect for each of you. Along with the guarantee that one person cannot disturb the other by turning in the night.

STEP 3

Drawers? Do you need extra storage?

If you are short of storage space go for drawers. Most of our beds are available with off set drawers to allow for bed side units. Akva drawer units are of the best quality and solidly built.

We offer standard and deep four drawer units as well as storage and eight drawer options.

With waterbeds you get the bonus that anything in the drawers will be aired.

STEP 4

Which style of bed?

With the Soft you have the classic divan softside design at a great price. For a little extra you can have the Allround with the easy tuck in, shallow foam surround and firm under rail. With the Deco you can match the base with a solid wood surround in light and medium beech or mahogany. With the Allround and Deco you can customise the bed in a wide choice of material, suede or leather to match our headboards and your bedroom décor.

We are not here to sell you the dearest bed. We want you to choose the right bed for your needs. Whether you choose the basic Soft or the top of the range Deco or Vega, the mattresses and heaters are of the same high quality. The difference in price is for size, style and finish

STEP 5

Headboards.

You can use your existing headboard either wall mounted or with the headboard struts resting on the floor and the bed pinning it to the wall.

Akva produce a range of beautifully finished headboards to compliment their beds in wood , material, suede and leather. These are attached to extended pedestal bases on brackets and can be lifted off for vacuuming. If you want to add an Akva headboard to your existing waterbed or conventional bed, it will be supplied with fittings for wall mounting only.

STEP 6

Bedding & Pillows

Most of our soft sided divans take standard bedding. Some people with limited movement find it a little easier to move around on a sateen sheet (cotton satin). We can supply any size bedding in polycotton, percale, and sateen up to 6’6” (200cm)width x 7’10” length (240cm). So you can choose the right size bed for you.

We also stock Mediflow waterbase pillows to compliment our beds. Each pillow is fully adjustable for firmness and so will fit every one perfectly (as do our beds!) see MEDIFLOW WATERBASE PILLOWS
